A quick note about news these days: anytime you read about mortgages going bad or mounting loan delinquincies keep in mind that these terms are, more or less, code for "more bank failures" as every mortgage or loan that goes bad is held by some bank somewhere. My guess is a lot of people who either have their mortgages paid off or who (like me) are renters don't realize that we are and will continue to be affected by other people's loans going bad simply by way of still needing at least some access to the banking system.
